Tried to follow the 46 mile xxx racing route again on my own this morning to highland park and back.  Another great bike route!  This one hugs the lakefront on Sheridan – hilly in a shady and pleasant sort of way.  I didn’t make it to the group start this week because a valve failure set me back at 7am.

Paying attention to diet the day before the ride and the day of definitely improved my performance — there was no ‘bonking’ this time on the way back.  That said, my overall pace was probably a little slower since there was no peloton to amp up the competitive energy and speed.  It’s crazy how fast 46 miles go by on an 18 lb caad 9-5.   Sooo different from loaded touring!
